Debbie Freda recounts her impression of the 2009 AAUW National Convention

I attended my first AAUW National Convention in June, and found it invigorating and empowering to be with so many dynamic, passionate women! It was truly a memorable experience! It made me feel very proud to be part of AAUW and what the organization has accomplished so far. But we still have a long way to go! With key issues such as the wage gap and gender discrimination happening every day, I found the words of Lilly Ledbetter and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) so inspiring! They each have been tireless advocates in fighting for key issues and positive societal change…and continue to do so!

I encourage everyone to start thinking about, and planning for, the next National Convention on June 17-19, 2011 in Washington, DC. We hope to have an increased representation from Louisiana. The State is making plans now to help with more travel funding as an investment in our Members! Stay tuned for more details in the future.
